I feel compelled to reply to your post on yahoo re:Pamphlion and the New Orleans Saints. What so many in the media are missing, is that Steve Gleason, who has ALS, HIRED Pamphilon to film the remainder of his life as a gift to his child. This was NOT an NFL documentary, but a private arrangement between Gleason and Pamphilon. Gleason owns the rights to any documentation, whether audio or video, that he paid Pamphilon to document. Pamphilon only had access to the Saint’s locker room via Steve Gleason. He totally betrayed his dying client’s trust!
I am very sympathetic for the saints’ fans for having to endure this. However, I see this differently. Pamphilon had to get clearance from the Saints to be there–Gleason does not bring people into locker rooms. Gleason was not hurt by slander or libel. He was damaged by association–association with an unethical reporter, but more directly, the Saints themselves. However, if I have a deal with you to keep a secret and I watch your friend rob a bank, am I a bad person for reporting your friend?
I know that P’s intentions were not pure. I feel badly for Gleason that something like this scarred his story. I suppose he is guilty of being around unethical people across the board.
